A report from SteveL for mikescatchreport.com

After a few days of bad weather cleared I hit the flats to try for an early morning bonefish with my spinning outfit.

My original plan was to fish at a special spot but I met fly fisher SteveT, who was planning to fish the same area, so I let him have that spot (which is really good for fly fishing) and walked further down the beach and began casting.

I had a new Shimano rod and was hoping for a nice fish to break it in but after an hour without a bite I decided to call it a day. Suddenly something big grabbed the bait.

This fish made multiple long runs. Several times, as I brought it close to net, the fish would see me then speed off again. I finally walked the fish to SteveT (who had caught a few bonefish too) and he helped me land the fish to measure, weigh and release.

This turned out to be a nice 10 pound bonefish, which was a great way to break in a new rod.
