And in Maryland, the Department of Natural
Resources has renewed its call for anglers to
catch and
kill all Northern
Snakeheads. No exceptions.
“We want you to catch and kill snakeheads,”
says Fisheries Director Don Cosden. “This is
not a species that we want in our waters.” The
department also has proposed a regulation to
ban felt-soled wading
boots to control the spread
of
didymo. So it
might be a good time to think about
resoling those wading
boots or getting a new
non-felt pair. On May 29 Vermont banned the
use of felt-soled boots and felt waders as of
April 1, 2011. And Alaska is banning felt
beginning in 2012.

rig’s on fire! I told you this was going to
happen."--Deepwater Horizon and Transocean

A cap has been placed over the leaking Deepwater
Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and skimmer
ships are in place but crude is still washing up
in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, Florida
and parts of Texas. The size and scope of the
slick is difficult to imagine, but go to

city and state into the location field and
you'll get a rough idea of what the folks in
the Gulf are facing. For updates on the spill
