A report from Jin
I fished the stream (Valley Creek) that runs through Valley Forge National Park just above a covered bridge.
The stream is less than 20 to 30 feet across at its widest point and contains numerous riffle/pool combinations along its path. The lower segment of the river has some long stretches of flat water. I ran into one fly fisherman who had some luck dredging a deep pool (reminds me of Mike).
I started prospecting the water with a dry but after working couple decent looking pool with no success switch to a nymph. It took couple casts before I hooked and landed a small brownie. This was my only fish of the day.
The clouds started to roll in by early afternoon and the wind picked up. This was my que to call it a day and come back another day.
Valley Creek is a spring-fed, limestone body of water that supports a wild brown trout fishery just a short distance from Philadelphia. No kill regulations, no stocking, and cold water make it possible to catch browns up to 16-inches in this creek.
The creek originates in East Whiteland Township and flows 12 miles to the Schuylkill River. The lower half is the most accessible to the public with posted land makes it difficult to find open fishing water on the upper sections of the creek.
