Bug spray. You need lots of bug spray.
We arrived in Craig, Montana, and after unpacking and
grabbing a quick bite to eat we set off over the Governor Forrest H. Anderson bridge
to try our luck at some evening dry fly fishing with
Tom and Steve. Tons of caddis were fluttering through
the sky but we later found out that it was not only
caddis that was out and about in the evening sky.
We found several pods of trout that were taking insects off
the top so we set ourselves up along the bank to deliver
size 16 flies into the feeding lanes. However we soon found
out the minute we stopped to begin casting tons of
mosquitos descended on us and began to draw blood. It got
so bad that after 30 minutes we gave up and went back to
our rooms to prepare for the next day when we're scheduled
to float down the Missouri River with the guys from
Big Sky Anglers.
EQUIPMENT: We used 5 and 6-weight rods
rigged with nymphs or dry flies.
